The time limit for claiming prizes on Pakistan Prize Bonds is six years from the date of the relevant draw. National Savings describes six years as the maximum period available to claim Prize Bond prize money, and the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation, or SBP BSC, gives the same rule.
The important date is the draw date, not the date on which you discovered that your bond had won. If you find an old winning bond, check the original draw date immediately. Once the six-year claim period has passed, you should not assume that the prize can still be paid.
Quick Answer
- Prize Bond prize money can be claimed within six years from the date of the relevant draw.
- The six-year period begins from the draw date.
- Finding the winning bond late does not restart or extend the claim period.
- A bond winning in separate draws has a separate six-year period for each relevant draw.
- Premium Prize Bond winnings are normally credited directly to the registered holder’s bank account.
- Do not wait until the final days of the six-year period to submit a claim.
What Is the Time Limit for Claiming Prize Bond Prizes?
National Savings currently states that the maximum time available to claim a Prize Bond prize is six years from the date of the draw. SBP BSC also states that prize money can be claimed within six years from the date of the relevant draw.
This is a claim deadline, not simply a recommendation.
For example, suppose a Prize Bond won in a draw held on 15 September 2020. Six years from that draw date falls on 15 September 2026. A holder in this situation should submit the claim before reaching the end of that period rather than relying on a last-day submission.
If your deadline is only a few days away, contact the relevant SBP BSC office directly and confirm the submission procedure before travelling.
When Does the Six-Year Claim Period Start?
The six-year period starts from the date of the relevant Prize Bond draw.
It does not start from:
- the date you checked your bond number
- the date you discovered you had won
- the date you obtained a claim form
- the date you visited National Savings or SBP
- the date you originally purchased the bond
This distinction matters when people check bundles of old Prize Bonds after several years.
If you find a winning number in an old draw list, record the denomination, bond number, draw number and exact draw date. The draw date is the key date for calculating whether the prize remains within the claim period.
You can check older results through the PrizeBondList.pk Prize Bond search and then verify the winning number against the corresponding official draw result.
How Soon After a Draw Can Prize Money Be Claimed?
You do not normally submit a claim immediately after the draw.
SBP’s National Prize Bond FAQ says a prize-money claim can usually be lodged after two working days from the draw date. National Savings’ FAQ contains older operational wording mentioning several working days after the draw. The important point for this page is that both authorities consistently state the same maximum deadline: six years from the relevant draw.
For a recent win, allow the official result and claim-processing system to be updated before submitting your documents.
Can You Claim Prize Money After Six Years?
Official National Savings guidance defines six years as the maximum time period for claiming a prize. The published SBP guidance likewise says a claim must be made within six years from the relevant draw.
There is no general published rule allowing a bearer Prize Bond holder to ignore that deadline simply because the winning number was discovered late.
So if an old prize has already crossed the six-year mark, do not rely on an agent, shopkeeper or unofficial website promising that the deadline can easily be bypassed. Contact National Savings or SBP BSC for official confirmation of your specific case.
What If the Same Bond Wins in More Than One Draw?
A Prize Bond may win prizes in different draws while it remains eligible.
In that situation, the six-year period is connected to each relevant draw separately. SBP guidance specifically states that claims involving a bond winning in different draws can be lodged within six years from the dates of the respective draws.
For example:
| Winning draw | Six-year period calculated from |
|---|---|
| First winning draw | Date of first draw |
| Second winning draw | Date of second draw |
An older prize could therefore expire before a later prize won by the same bond.
Does the Six-Year Rule Apply to Withdrawn Prize Bonds?
The prize claim deadline should not be confused with the government’s separate deadlines for encashment or conversion of withdrawn Prize Bond denominations.
SBP specifically states that if a withdrawn bearer Prize Bond had already won a prize, the prize money may be claimed within six years from the relevant draw date.
This is particularly important for old Rs.7,500, Rs.15,000, Rs.25,000 and Rs.40,000 bearer bonds.
The old bearer Rs.25,000 and Rs.40,000 bonds should also not be confused with today’s Rs.25,000 and Rs.40,000 Premium Prize Bonds (Registered). For historical redemption information, see the PrizeBondList.pk page on discontinued Prize Bonds.
Time Limit for Premium Prize Bond Prizes
Premium Prize Bonds work differently because they are registered in the investor’s name.
National Savings states that Premium Prize Bond prize money is normally credited directly to the investor’s registered bank account, so the winner does not ordinarily need to submit a prize claim form.
There is still an important six-year rule.
Under the Premium Prize Bond rules, if prize money or profit is returned by the bank and remains unpaid, the registered holder may claim that amount from the office of issue within six years from the date the amount became due. The rules state that after expiry of that period, the Federal Government’s liability to pay the amount terminates and no claim is entertained.
Important distinction
Bearer Prize Bond: six years from the relevant draw date.
Premium Prize Bond with returned/unpaid credit: six years from the date the amount became due under the registered-bond rules.
What Should You Do If You Find an Old Winning Bond?
First, confirm the exact draw in which the bond won. Do not calculate the deadline from today’s date or from the date you found the bond.
Then:
- Note the bond denomination and number.
- Confirm the winning number against the relevant official draw.
- Record the exact draw date.
- Calculate six years from that date.
- Keep the original winning bond secure.
- Obtain the current prize-money claim form if required.
- Submit the claim through the authorized channel well before the deadline.
SBP currently provides the PB-23 Prize Money Claim Application Form through its National Prize Bonds forms section.

Claim Your Prize Before the Six-Year Deadline
The official time limit for claiming prizes on Pakistan bearer Prize Bonds is six years from the date of the relevant draw. The safest approach is simple: once you confirm that a bond has won, check the draw date and begin the claim process without unnecessary delay.
Keep the original winning bond secure and use current National Savings or SBP BSC instructions when submitting the claim. For Premium Prize Bonds, winnings are normally credited automatically, but returned or unpaid amounts are also subject to a six-year limit under the scheme rules.

FAQs
How many years do I have to claim a Prize Bond prize?
You have six years from the date of the relevant draw. Both National Savings and SBP BSC publish this six-year limit for Prize Bond prize-money claims.
Does the six-year period start when I discover my winning bond?
No. The period is calculated from the date of the draw in which your bond won, not from the date you checked the number or discovered the prize.
Can I claim a Prize Bond prize after five years?
Yes, provided six years have not passed since the relevant draw and the claim otherwise meets the applicable requirements. There is no need to wait, though. Submit the claim once the winning number has been properly verified.
What happens if six years have already passed?
National Savings describes six years as the maximum claim period. Published SBP guidance also limits claims to six years from the relevant draw. You should contact SBP BSC for official confirmation in an expired case rather than relying on an unofficial agent.
Is the time limit the same for a withdrawn Prize Bond?
For prize money already won by a withdrawn bearer Prize Bond, SBP states that the prize can be claimed within six years from the relevant draw. This should not be confused with separate government deadlines for redeeming or converting the bond’s face value.
Do Premium Prize Bond winners have to submit a claim within six years?
Premium Prize Bond prizes are normally credited directly to the registered holder’s bank account. If a prize or profit payment is returned and remains unpaid, the scheme rules provide a six-year period from the date that amount became due.
