Prize Bond winnings in Pakistan are subject to withholding tax. The Federal Board of Revenue's current Tax Year 2027 withholding tax rate card, updated through June 30, 2026 under the Finance Act 2026, lists a 15% rate for persons on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL) and 30% for Non-ATL persons on Prize Bond winnings under Section 156. National Savings currently publishes the same rates for Prize Bond prize money.

This interactive tax/net-prize calculator applies those rates to the gross winning amount you enter. It shows the gross prize, applicable tax rate, estimated withholding tax and estimated amount remaining after the deduction.

Quick Answer

  • ATL / filer rate: 15% of Prize Bond prize money.
  • Non-ATL / non-filer rate: 30% of Prize Bond prize money.
  • Tax deduction: Gross prize × applicable tax rate.
  • Net prize: Gross prize − withholding tax.
  • Your relevant ATL status should be confirmed before claiming the prize.

FBR specifically lists Prize Bonds under Section 156, Prizes & Winnings.

How the Prize Bond Tax Calculator Works

You only need two pieces of information.

First, enter the gross prize amount, meaning the full winning amount before tax. Then select whether you are currently on the FBR Active Taxpayers List.

The calculator applies:

Tax statusPrize Bond withholding rate
Filer / ATL15%
Non-filer / Non-ATL30%

These rates are confirmed by both FBR's current withholding rate card and National Savings.

The result is an estimate of the amount remaining after Prize Bond withholding tax. It does not calculate your complete personal income-tax position.

Prize Bond Tax Calculation Formula

The calculation is simple:

Tax deduction = Gross prize × tax rate

Estimated net prize = Gross prize − tax deduction

For someone on the ATL, multiply the prize by 15%.

For someone not on the ATL, multiply it by 30%.

Example on a Rs.1,500,000 Prize

Suppose a winning Prize Bond carries prize money of Rs.1,500,000.

For an ATL taxpayer:

  • Gross prize: Rs.1,500,000
  • Tax rate: 15%
  • Tax deduction: Rs.225,000
  • Estimated net prize: Rs.1,275,000

For a Non-ATL taxpayer:

  • Gross prize: Rs.1,500,000
  • Tax rate: 30%
  • Tax deduction: Rs.450,000
  • Estimated net prize: Rs.1,050,000

That is a difference of Rs.225,000 on the same gross prize because the applicable withholding rates are different.

What Does ATL Mean for Prize Bond Tax?

ATL stands for Active Taxpayers List. FBR describes it as its record of active income-tax return filers and provides online and SMS methods for checking a person's current status. FBR also identifies lower withholding tax on Prize Bond winnings as one of the benefits of appearing on the ATL.

This distinction matters because the official rate card uses the categories ATL and Non-ATL.

Do not assume that having an NTN alone means the 15% rate will automatically apply. Check your current ATL status before submitting a Prize Bond claim.

FBR currently allows individuals to check status by sending ATL followed by their 13-digit CNIC number to 9966, or through its online taxpayer-status facility.

Is Tax Deducted From the Bond Value?

No. This calculator is for prize money, not the face value of the Prize Bond.

If you own a Rs.1,500 Prize Bond, for example, the 15% or 30% calculation is not performed on Rs.1,500 merely because that is the denomination of the bond. It is calculated on the prize amount you have won.

That distinction is especially useful when checking results on the PrizeBondList.pk Power Search or reviewing the relevant prize structure before making a claim.

Does the Calculator Give the Final Payable Amount?

It gives an estimate based on the currently published Prize Bond withholding rates.

The authority processing the payment applies the prevailing rate and verifies the claimant's relevant status. SBP's Prize Bond claim documentation also states that withholding tax on prize money is deducted at prevailing rates. (State Bank of Pakistan)

Tax rules can change through a Finance Act or another official amendment. For that reason, PrizeBondList.pk should update the calculator whenever FBR or National Savings changes the published Prize Bond rates.

If you have already confirmed a winning number, the next step is to review how to claim Prize Bond money, the required Prize Bond claim form, and the current claim procedure.

PrizeBondList.pk is an independent information website and is not operated by National Savings, the State Bank of Pakistan or the Government of Pakistan. Official sources should be used for final confirmation of claims, forms and policy changes.

FAQs

What is the current tax on Prize Bond winnings in Pakistan?

FBR's current withholding tax rate card lists 15% for ATL taxpayers and 30% for Non-ATL taxpayers on Prize Bond winnings under Section 156. National Savings currently publishes the same filer and non-filer rates.

How much will I receive after 15% Prize Bond tax?

Multiply your gross prize by 0.15 to find the tax deduction, then subtract it from the prize. For example, tax on Rs.1,000,000 at 15% is Rs.150,000, leaving an estimated Rs.850,000 after that withholding deduction.

How much will I receive after 30% Prize Bond tax?

At a 30% withholding rate, a Rs.1,000,000 Prize Bond prize would have an estimated Rs.300,000 deducted, leaving Rs.700,000 after that deduction.

Is Prize Bond tax calculated on the bond denomination?

No. The withholding tax is calculated on the prize money, not simply on the face value of the Prize Bond.

How can I check whether I am on the ATL?

FBR provides an online ATL status facility. Individuals can also send ATL, a space and their 13-digit CNIC number to 9966 to check their current status. (Federal Board of Revenue)

Can the Prize Bond tax rate change?

Yes. Prize Bond withholding rates are determined under Pakistan's tax rules and can be amended. The calculator should therefore be checked against the latest FBR and National Savings information before relying on it for a claim.
